Rehearse the interview where nobody's in the room
More and more first-round interviews are one-way video screens: a timed prompt, a countdown, a recording — no interviewer, no cues, limited retakes. The simulator recreates that exact format against your target role's question bank, then gives you feedback grounded in what you actually said: every point quoted or timestamped, or it doesn't appear.
The real format, rehearsed properly
3
timed prompts
Drawn from your target role's interview question bank — 85+ roles covered, plus a rigorous generic track — the same banks behind our interview-prep guides.
30s
to think, then record
The question reveals, the preparation countdown runs, recording starts — a 2-minute window per answer, exactly the pressure of the real thing.
1
retake per question
Real platforms limit retakes, so the simulator does too — learning to deliver under a retake budget is part of the skill.
Feedback on the things candidates actually fail
Measured mechanics — computed, not opinions
- Pacing: your words per minute against a stated 110–160 wpm conversational band — most people rush a one-way answer.
- Fillers: every captured "um", "uh" and hedge phrase, each listed with its timestamp — not a vague "watch your fillers".
- Pauses: silences measured from the audio itself, so a long freeze shows up even when the transcript misses it.
- The timer: how much of the window you used, and whether it cut you off mid-thought.
Content — every observation anchored to your words
- STAR structure: Situation, Task, Action, Result — marked present only when it's genuinely in what you said.
- Evidence: the specifics, numbers and outcomes you gave — or the moment where one should have landed and didn't.
- Relevance: whether you answered the question that was asked — spoken answers drift, and the feedback points at where, with the quote.
- The grounding rule: a point that can't quote your transcript or timestamp its moment is deleted before you see it, and the deletion count is shown.
The simulator is an AI practice partner, clearly labelled as one: it reacts only to what you actually said on the recording, it can make mistakes, and it never claims to know what any specific employer's process wants.
Your face and voice stay yours
Practice recordings are the most personal data we could hold, and they're treated that way: stored privately, playable only through short-lived signed links, never public, never shared, never used to train anything.
Every recording has a Delete button that removes it — video, transcript, feedback — immediately and permanently. Whatever you keep is deleted automatically 30 days after recording. This policy is shown again before your first recording, and it's stated on our privacy page.
Questions people ask
What is a one-way (asynchronous) video interview?
An interview with no interviewer present: the platform shows you a question, gives you a short preparation window, then records your answer against a countdown, usually with limited retakes. Employers review the recordings later. HireVue and Sapia are the best-known platforms. The format trips up strong candidates because nothing about a normal conversation prepares you for talking to a timer.
How closely does the simulator match the real thing?
The format is the point: 3 timed prompts drawn from your target role's question bank, 30 seconds of thinking time after each question reveals, a 2-minute answer window, and 1 retake per question — the same pressure, rehearsed until it feels normal.
What feedback do I get?
Two layers. First the measured mechanics — the part candidates actually fail: your speaking pace against a stated 110–160 words-per-minute band, every captured filler word with its timestamp, long pauses measured from the audio, and how you used the timer. Then content feedback on the answer itself: STAR structure, whether you gave evidence, and whether you answered the question that was asked — and every single observation quotes your words or timestamps the moment it refers to. If a point can't be anchored to something you actually said, it is deleted before you see it.
Who can use it?
It's included with Job Search Pro — along with the AI Interview Coach's unlimited text practice, the 90-Day Job Search Programme and the rest of the membership. Career Campaign clients and outplacement-seat holders have it too. There's nothing extra to buy.
What happens to my recordings?
They're yours. Recordings are stored privately (never public, never shared, never used for training), you can delete any recording immediately with its Delete button, and everything — video, transcript, feedback — is automatically and permanently deleted 30 days after recording. The retention policy is shown again before your first recording.
Is the feedback really specific to my answer?
That's the design constraint the whole feature is built around. The mechanics numbers are computed from your recording, not judged. The content feedback is checked observation-by-observation against your transcript: anything that doesn't carry a verbatim quote of your words or a timestamp inside your answer is dropped server-side, and the drop count is shown to you honestly.
