Automotive Technician / ASE Master Technician
Sample Resume & ATS Keywords
Automotive technician resumes compete inside one of the highest applicant volumes in the industry, and dealership ATS platforms sort almost entirely on certification codes and tool names: "ASE certified" alone won't match a search for "ASE Master Technician (A1-A8)" or "ASE L4 ADAS Specialist." Flat-rate production numbers — efficiency, fix-right-first-time rate, comeback rate — carry as much weight as the certifications themselves once a resume clears the keyword filter. The example below shows how to write both so a shop's scheduling software and its service manager reach the same conclusion.

Sample achievement bullets that pass ATS screening
Each bullet follows the pattern recruiters and parsers reward: exact keywords, a specific action, and a quantified outcome.
- Diagnosed and repaired 55+ vehicles monthly as an ASE Master Technician (A1-A8), sustaining 115% flat-rate efficiency and a 95% fix-right-first-time rate across a 400-vehicle regional fleet service contract.
- Cut average electrical/driveability diagnostic time from 2.2 to 1.3 hours by adopting lab-scope testing and J2534 module reprogramming, reducing comeback rate from 6% to 3.5%.
- Completed ASE xEV Level 2 high-voltage safety certification, then performed 90+ hybrid battery and inverter services over 18 months with zero PPE or lockout/tagout incidents.
- Built out a mobile ADAS calibration bay (static and dynamic calibration to OEM spec), completing 12-15 camera/radar calibrations weekly and cutting outside-sublet costs by roughly $3,200/month.
- Trained 3 lube-line technicians on digital vehicle inspection (DVI) workflow in Tekmetric, raising average recommended-repair capture rate from 28% to 41%.
- Diagnosed an intermittent CAN-bus communication fault recurring across 6 comeback vehicles of the same model year using factory service data and a lab scope, eliminating repeat visits after the fix.
- Maintained current ASE A1-A8 Master status plus A9 Light Vehicle Diesel, and completed Ford Senior Master OEM training, expanding assignable repair-order types by roughly 20%.
- Performed 300+ pre-delivery and used-vehicle safety inspections, flagging brake and suspension issues that lifted average repair-order dollar value 18% without increasing comeback rate.

Automotive Technician / ASE Master Technician resume formatting: do this, not that
Do
- List ASE certifications with exact codes and titles — "ASE Master Automobile Technician (A1-A8)", "ASE xEV Level 2", "ASE L4 ADAS Specialist" — not "certified mechanic."
- Name scan tools and OEM platforms exactly: Autel MaxiSYS, Snap-on Zeus, Ford IDS/FDRS, Toyota Techstream — generic "diagnostic equipment" won't match a search.
- Quantify flat-rate efficiency, fix-right-first-time rate, and comeback rate — the production numbers service managers screen on.
- State certification dates, since ASE credentials expire every 5 years, and note recertification status if renewal is pending.
- Call out ADAS and EV/hybrid work explicitly with the calibration or high-voltage vocabulary the posting uses.
Don't
- Don't write "ASE certified" without listing which tests — A1-A8 Master status is a different, larger claim than two individual A-series certs.
- Don't summarize OEM training as "manufacturer training"; name the program (Ford Senior Master, GM World Class Technician, Toyota T-TEN).
- Don't claim xEV or ADAS credentials you haven't completed — say "in progress" or "scheduled" if that's accurate.
- Don't leave flat-rate and efficiency numbers off the resume; unquantified "repaired vehicles" reads as entry-level.
- Don't bury EPA Section 609 or high-voltage safety training in a footer if you do A/C or EV work — it's a screening keyword.
